Basil Butler CBE FREng
Basil Butler CBE joined the oil industry in Trinidad in 1954
as a Petroleum Engineer after graduating from Cambridge University.
Most of his career was spent with BP where he served in Kuwait, Colombia, Alaska and the UK.
He was Project Director for Sullom Voe and subsequently in charge of BP’s North Sea operations.
He went on to be CEO of BP Exploration and retired from the main board of BP in 1991.
He was later a director of Murphy Oil in the USA and Chairman of Brown and Root Ltd.
Basil Butler was Chairman of The Royal Academy of Engineering's International and Membership Committees and Senior Vice President
(1996-1999). He was the first chairman of Euro-CASE and he has been a member of the Ingenia Editorial Board
since its inception.
