Professor Liz Tanner FREng

Liz Tanner has been a Professor in the Departments of Mechanical and of Civil Engineering at the University of Glasgow since 2007. Prior to joining the University of Glasgow she was at Queen Mary University of London, where she was Professor of Biomedical Materials from 1998 and Associate Director of the IRC in Biomedical Materials 1998-2001. She has been an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at Lund University Hospital since 1998.

Liz Tanner’s research interests are biomaterials and biomechanics especially related to bone and joint replacement and augmentation. This interest progresses from the development of novel materials, through their testing and into clinical application. From 2005-2009 she was Secretary of the European Society for Biomaterials.

At the Royal Academy of Engineering she is a member of the UK Focus on Biomedical Engineering and is Chairman of the Global Research Awards Committee.
